In response to continuous light rains across West Bengal, including metropolitan Kolkata, the region has experienced a noticeable respite from the scorching heatwave. The Meteorological Department confirmed a significant drop in temperature, with Kolkata recording 13.8 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours. This precipitation has led to a notable decrease in the minimum temperature, now resting at 22.2 degrees Celsius, five degrees below the normal seasonal average. Similarly, the maximum temperature in Kolkata has been recorded at 32.5 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal, contributing to the alleviation of the heatwave's intensity.
Furthermore, other parts of the state, such as Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, and Bankura, have also experienced rainfall, with forecasts indicating continued light rain through today and Wednesday. Despite the temporary relief, the Meteorological Department warns that the current weather pattern is expected to persist throughout the week, with a potential return to increasing temperatures forecasted for the following week. Meanwhile, areas in North Bengal, including Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong, have reported normal weather conditions amidst the ongoing fluctuations in the rest of the state.
